Some church stuff……..

Here’s just a quick update on some stuff going on at the church…….

Missions Offering this Sunday
This is would be a great time to pay your monthly Project A1:8 pledge of $18. Everyone else will also have the opportunity to give as well.   Look for the marked mission envelopes on your table.  Check out the Project A1:8 site to find out more about our missions vision, progress of the Uganda orphanage, and how you can be a part of the team going to Africa this summer.     http://projecta18.wordpress.com/

Crosshairs Sunday
Every second Sunday of the month is Crosshairs Sunday.  If you were wondering how you can be a part of our church – this is it!  From service atmosphere to children’s ministries to outreaches to discipleship, we cover it all.  Find your place in our church family.  We need your talents, gifts & inputs plus we just really like hanging out with everyone.  Lunch and childcare are provided.

Youth Pizza Party
We are thrilled to resurrect our youth ministry from grades 6-12th.  There will be a youth pizza (and perhaps some kareoke or something completely crazy) party at the Duhnovsky’s home on Friday, February 6th from 6-8pm.  Have youth just bring a 2 liter pop or favorite snack.  All youth are invited!

And one fast happy note…. we have 10 kids signed up from our church to attend Winter Camp and about 5 more to come!  Do you realize that is almost every kid at our church?  Plus of the five COTH campuses, we are second only to the Winamac campus (who have 12) in number of kids going.  This is big!!  Thank you for sending your children!  This will be an experience that they will be telling you about for months!  We still are accepting applications until February 8th.

Ok, I think that’s all for now!  Have a great rest of the week and we will see you Sunday!

In memory of……

We sadly (or maybe not so sadly) had to say goodbye to our Bonneville formerly known as my “princess car”.  Over the years however my princess car turned into an ogre.  (And those who know us understand what I mean by that.)  The last few years our car decided it didn’t like its paint any longer and started to shed – very, very badly.  Let’s just say we learned alot about pride and humility driving the car (behind dark sunglasses in a hat).

So for the first time in our 7 year marriage we actually had to shop for a car.  It was an interesting experience – a little internet scam here, a little corporate bank stupid rules there (I’ll leave it at that since this is the church blog :) ).  We just needed an inexpensive, dependable family car, for crying out loud!

And one was found! Halleluheh!  After the vehicles we have been driving, it doesn’t take much to impress us, so right now we are extremely psyched!  A car with a radio, AC, both side mirrors, and PAINT!  Wow, we are in heaven.  Watch out, here come the Duhnovsky’s!  And so long old friend…….

Kankakee Valley Christian Day Care

Posted in Uncategorized by shawnduhnovsky on January 25, 2009

Who, you may ask?  Do you realize that for the past ten years, Kankakee Valley Christian Daycare has been assisting so many families by caring for their children, right here at our Starke County campus?  In this day and age, it is a reality that both parents work.   We have been very blessed to have such a great place for kids in our community to play and learn.

Our kids, Abby & Jack, have gone to the daycare since they were old enough to attend. They get excited every time they go. They come home and tell us how much they learned, the friends they played with, and the teachers they love.

Contact director, Misti Hiatt, if you would like more information -    574-772-2277   .  Check out the new daycare blog and see for yourself what an awesome ministry this is: http://kvcdaycare.wordpress.com/

Change is Possible

Posted in Uncategorized by shawnduhnovsky on January 5, 2009

New Year’s resolutions are very common and not all bad. Even though many of us have a hard time on following through with them. It is a great time of self-examination and a time of hope and goals. The following are a few ideas in our spiritual life to help us keep on the right track.

1) Never stop our pursuit of God
This is a good, inspiring point for me.  Life gets busy and many distractions come in the day. Never stopping to pursue God has to be a never ending desire of connection. Lately I have been missing Jesus, and time alone with Him is needed. This morning on the way to work I had a good time of connecting. I love Jesus and really enjoy hanging out!!

2) Stop for directions
This is something I have to do often in life. I don’t always know the way to go in life’s journey, so I often ask.

3) Reward of destination
It is always fun when we arrive right were the Lord wants us to be. There is a sense of satifaction and accomplishment. I love the journey with Christ!
